2nd Annual 'Taste of the North Shore'
for 2006
Tuesday, March 14, 2006
Peabody Rotary held its 2nd Annual Taste of the North Shore. The event was tremendously successful! It took place on Tuesday, March 14th, 2006, 6 PM, at the Jimmy's Allenhurst facilities on Rt. 114 in Danvers.
The Taste of the North Shore gave approximately 350 guests an opportunity to sample the delicacies of many of the North Shore’s fine restaurants in a single evening. This year’s event showcased the dishes of 17 establishments. Building on last year's success, the 2006 event was bigger, hosting more food establishments. Says Peabody Rotary President Peggy Pedro: “This year's Taste of the North Shore was a tremendous success!
At the event there was a popular Silent Auction of Sports Memorabilia, which included many items from Boston's most famous sports teams! All items were sold!
The Bedrock Music Company and Patrick Runne gratuitously provided musical entertainment for the evening. What a professional voice he has!
The 2006 Raffle awarded $15,000 in prizes including a $10,000 grand winner.
Even though the Taste of the North Shore was meant to be a party and festive atmosphere, as with the most everything Rotary does, it also has a civic purpose. Peabody Rotary hosted the event to raise money to benefit Peabody Institute Library, Citizens for Adequate Housing, Inc. and other local charities. “The Taste of the North Shore was a true win-win opportunity for all participants”, said Rotary’s Anders Nilsson, co-chair of the event. “It was a great time for the public and an opportunity for the restaurants to present themselves. All of this, while raising money that will be used to support our community.”
The Peabody Rotary Club was established in 1920 and is an active part of Rotary International. What this means on a practical level is that Peabody takes part in and supports many local charities and community projects, as well as participating in regional and international humanitarian projects.
