Today's visiting Rotarians: Matthew Piaker of Beverly
Guests: Sophie Silveira, Guest of her Mommy, Vanessa, and how appropriate on this first day of New Generations Month!! (Welcome back, Vanessa!!)
*************************************
Mel thanked Fred for buying 10 books and Metro Credit Union for selling two more. He further thanked Bob C for donating a new roll of raffle tickets and Herb for the decks of cards.
President Steve introduced visiting Rotarian Matthew Piaker from the Beverly Club, who told us about their first ever golf tournament the week after ours. The fee is $125 per golfer. For every golfer we get for them, our club will earn $60.
President Steve said that the planned highly anticipated program for next week, Jessika's classification speech, will be replaced by a very important brainstorming session for membership. We have lost a valuable member, Grace, who has resigned from the club. WE NEED TO GET MORE MEMBERS!!!!! So bring your ideas, names and other thoughts with you, no matter how far-fetrched you think they may be.
Vanessa introduced Sophie to the club and said that she's a perfect baby. There's Earlyact, Interact and Rotaract. How about Babyact? Vanessa will be back to work next week.
A September 10th is the annual Progeria Road Race. Our $250 donations entitles the club to two participants. Any takers?
President Steve reminded us that our September 15th meeting will be with DG Swami, followed by a Board Meeting, thereby cancelling the planned meeting of September 8th.
The club has received a donation request from the Kid's Wish Network. The Board will vote on the request.
Bob C said that we still need everything for the golf tournament--raffle items, sponsors, golfers and wine bottles. It's a little over two weeks away!! Perfecto's will be providing breakfast, but a lunch provider is still being sought.
Peggy L has ordered the pies for the International Festival. Who has a truck to transport the pies from the Y to the festival on Sunday morning? Next week the sign up sheet will be circulated. Megan will provide TD Bank bags for the pies. Taht led to a discussion about Rotary embossed supplies--bags, t-shirts, etc.
Bob W mentioned that the Foundation/Membership conference was moved from September 22nd to October 27th (not 7th). Given our club's membership needs, we all should attend on the 27th.
Cathy said that she has submitted the District Grant application. She also mentioned that she found a supply of bike safety coloring books. They will be distributed at kids' day.
Martha told us that our club brochure is now at the printer.
Plans for the Mayoral Forum on October 6th are well underway. We should have a good turnout.
DG Swami will make the annual District Governor visit to the club on Thursday, September 15th.
*********************************
Happy Dollars: Acting Sergeant-at-arms Jeff collected $49.
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
*********************************
50-50 Raffle: Neither Bob Cohn M nor the Gary picked the new winning card, the 8 of Spades, nor the $50 Joker. So no-one won the huge jackpot of $14.
*********************************
Reminders:
Our speaker scheduler, Brian Cassidy, asks that you tell him of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.
**********************************
Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
**********************************
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!! Mel thanks former peabody Rotary Club member and Past President Dick Berg as well as Beth Hoffman of Temple Ner Tamid for their generous contributions.
