President Steve told us that the meeting of December 4th will feature the Peabody Veterans Memorial High School A Cappella Choir.  Because there will be 20 extra visitors and we must pay $20 for each, do we change the menu to continental, do we each pay an extra $20 to pay for one, do we meet in the lobby area and have the choir entertain hotel guests--in lieu of paying for their breakfasts?  President Steve will check with the hotel.  Please let him know what you think.

 *****************************

President Steve was quite impressed by our speaker last week.  In December, we'll make a presentation at the City Council.

    *****************************

President Steve mentioned that we joined the North Shore Chamber of Commerce solely for the perks of a new member--free advertising in the Peabody Weekly, Salem News and other media.  This is an advertising cost for the Taste of The North Shore and perhaps other events and membership solicitations.

*****************************

Grace had a couple of announcements:  The Council on Aging will be giving free flu shots next week.  The Chelsea Rotary is having a fundraiser tonight--tickets are $30 each.  Nichole talked again about the children's clothing drive she and  Grace are doing for the kids of her family's hometown in Mexico.  She'd also like to collect toys for them.  Fred told us that the GSE team has been selected.  The South African team will be here next May and will need host families for a week each.  Cathy said that the exchange program is looking for chaperones for the following:  Harvard vs. St. Lawrence Ice Hockey on 11/15, Blue Man Group on 12/7; First Night in Boston on December 31st.  Let  Cathy know if you're interested.  Fred said that Hamilton-Wenham Rotary had a fundraiser at Prince in Saugus--raised over 5K with little effort.  Martha mentioned that in January, Rachel Williams will be speaking at the library on life in Pakistan.  That was news to her husband, the aforementioned Fred.

Mel Babner reminds everyone to sell the Entertainment Books.  Sales are way down from last year!  But he thanks Rudy and Cathy (again!!) for selling a number of books.

*****************************

President Steve reminded the club that in order to have a successful Taste of the North Shore, it will take a lot of work by all members of Peabody Rotary.  With 100% approval to go forward, he announced that we will go on with the Taste.  The following subcommittees (and chairs) were named:  Ticket Sales and records (Mike Tallo); Restaurants (Cathy Gravel)--7 have already signed up; Ad Book (Peggy Pedro); Auctions/Raffles (Scott Bronstein); Publicity (Steve Smith).  Contact the committee chair on whose committee you want to work.  But a reminder--we're all members of every committee.  But choose one on which you'll work a bit harder.  Mel has already sold some raffle tickets!!

Reminders:

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.  Every nickel helps!!  Mel Thanks Mike Tallo for his generous contributions.

******************************

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, is asking that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.

 ******************************

Happy Dollars:  Acting Sergeant-at-arms Herb Harris collected $70.

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

    ******************************

50-50 Raffle: The pool was $168.  Neither Tom Rowen nor Steve Smith picked the KING OF CLUBS or the $50 Joker.

Billy Bob and Luther were talking one afternoon when Billy Bob tells Luther, "Ya know, I reckon I'm 'bout ready for a vacation. Only this year I'm gonna do it a little different. The last few years, I took your advice about where to go.

Three years ago you said to go to Hawaii. I went to Hawaii and Earline got pregnant.

Then two years ago, you told me to go to the Bahamas, and Earline got pregnant again.

Last year you suggested Tahiti and darned if Earline didn't get pregnant again."

Luther asks Billy Bob, "So, what you gonna do this year that's different?"

Billy Bob says, "This year I'm taking Earline with me."
