Editorial noteYour wayward editor has returned from his leave of absence!!  Many, many thanks to Cathy Gravel for editing in my absence!!  I was able to keep tabs on the club in between preparing tax returns.  Cathy did a fantastic job, but in a few short months--make that in a couple of months--she'll become our club's President and will have enough responsibilities without covering for me.  So I hope a couple of our other members will step up and volunteer to help when I'm away.  I plan to check out a new service provider--one that many other clubs in our district use.  I would like to have other members with me when I learn how to use it.  So please let me know of your interest.  You all know that, as editor, I sometimes put my opinions in the Ripple.  This would be your chance to do the same!!

Not much of a newsletter this week.  We met for lunch at the Danversport Yacht Club as the Beverly club hosted our club's 12 members as well as the Danvers, Lynn, and Gloucester clubs.  Special guests were the members of the GSE team from South Africa.  They began by singing their country's national anthem in Zulu.  Then they each told us about their families and about their country's geographic makeup, its political history, its cultures/nationalities and its tourist spots.

*

Nichole Nelsen has left the club as she is moving to Austin, Texas.

*

There will be a Board meeting on Monday, May 18th, at 500PM at GraVoc and Associates.

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of

  interest to the club.

  Reminders:

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.   Every nickel helps!!

 ******************************

Happy Dollars:  This week there were no collections for our club, but Beverly seemed to do very well.

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

    ******************************

50-50 Raffle: There was no raffle for the Peabody club.

'Hello, is this the Sheriff's Office?'

'Yes What can I do for you?'

"I'm calling to report 'bout my neighbor Virgil Smith. He's hidin' marijuana inside his firewood! Don't quite know how he gets it inside them logs, but he's hidin'it in there."

"'Thank you very much for the call, sir."

The next day, the Sheriff's Deputies descend on
Virgil's house. They search the shed where the firewood is kept. Using axes, they bust open every
piece of wood, but; find no marijuana. They sneer at Virgil and leave.

Shortly, the phone rings at Virgil's house.

'Hey, Virgil! This here's Floyd.....Did the Sheriff
come?'

'Yeah!'

'Did they chop your firewood?'

"'Yep!'

'Happy Birthday, buddy!'

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.  That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:

1. IS IT THE TRUTH?   2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?   3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?   4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?

Please keep this in mind!
