President Cathy welcomed all our visitors, including DG Ingrid, ADG Helene, the GSE area Coordinator ADG Dennis Sweeney, the members of the Danvers club and the visiting GSE team from London.
Fred had the pleasure of introducing the GSE team to the assemblage. First he reminded us that "this is our Foundation dollars at work". GSE is Group Study Exchange--in the fall, our district send a group to London. This month the London team in in our District. Fred introduced Team Leader, Judi Stockwell, who introduced the members of the team, all of whome thanked their host families. Using a London-based Monopoly board, they each told us about their families, their jobs, their interests and their aspirations of this GSE visit.
President Cathy, Sarah Oddy, Judi Stockwell, Jackie Boothe, Neelam Ladher, DG Ingrid.
Neelam Ladher works at Deloitte as an Executive Assistant to the Tax Treasury Team and works on website development, particularly for teh London 2012 Olympics.
Jackie Boothe is a Housing Resettlement Officer for hospital services, assisting those in need.
Sarah Oddy is a Detective Sergeant in the Metropolitan Police Service of London. She started as a "bobby on the beat".
Team Leader Judi Stockwell is a member of the Crystal Palace and Norwood Rotary Club. She's now a health services management consultant, but had worked in the National Audit Office, which is akin to our General Accounting Office. Judi told us that her father is also a Rotarian--for 52 years!!
The meeting closed with the GSE team presenting our club with their Rotary banner and President Cathy presenting them with our club's banner along with gift bags for each member.
******************************
Happy Dollars: No happy dollars were collected.
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
******************************
50-50 Raffle: Neither Visiting Danvers Rotarian nor Vanessa (again) picked the Queen of Hearts so no-one won the $198.00.
*******************************
Reminders:
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of
interest to the club.
*************************
Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
*************************
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!!

May 20:
May 27:
June 3: Kathy Ahearn Tavares, Aviv/Woodbridge
June 10: President Cathy and PE Martha--
International Literacy Program
June 17: Amy Tetrault, GSE Update from London

Please make every effort to attend your Rotary meetings. The more members we have each week, the better we look to potential members--and to our visitors and speakers.
Thinking his son would enjoy seeing the reenactment of a Civil War battle, my niece's husband took the boy, Will, to the event. But the poor child was terrified by the booming cannons. During a lull, Will's dad finally got him calmed down.
That's when the Confederate general hollered, "Fire at Will!"
It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member. It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter. That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.
