Thank you to Ann for volunteering at last Friday's Y it Matters program. The kids were a little more tired being the end of the week, but they still had a lot of fun!
The 4th and 5th grade music students were all excited to be able to go on their concert field trip. Not all of the students would have been able to go if not for Peabody Rotary's $300 donation.
The high school Senior Class is hosting a Health Day to educate students on how to make healthy choices as they graduate and move on. They have asked for a $500 sponsorship to go towards printing costs and other supplies. The club voted during the meeting and all voted yes.
Bridging between the high schools' health day and the STOP program, Healthy Peabody is hosting a speaker to teach parents how to recognize signs of bullying at home. We all agreed this is exactly the kinds of things we have been working towards with the STOP program. The club voted to donate $375 to help this program happen.
Thank you to everyone for working so hard to make this year's Taste of the North Shore so successful!
Thank you Steve Morad for Co-Chairing the Taste. Thank you Cathy for your direction and coordinating all of the raffle items. Thank you Bob Clattenburg for collecting all of the ads for the program book. Thank you Loring for tracking all of the ticket sales. Thank you Fred for coordinating the live auction items and being our Auctioneer. Thank you Mel and Jeff for running the registration table. Thank you to everyone who helped with set up and the raffles: Martha, Peggy L, Peggy P, Grace, John, Steve P, Steve S, Gary, Megan, Ann, Cathleen.

Today's speaker was Ambassadorial Scholar, Philipp Häsler.
Philipp attended the University of Switzerland and applied for this scholarship to get financial support to be able to travel to the United States to continue his education. He has already received his doctorate and is studying at Harvard Law School. Philipp came to Boston in September with his wife Miriam and they enjoy traveling, food, and photography. Philipp shared the beautiful photos he has taken since being in the Boston area. Philipp enjoys the variety of classes he is taking at Harvard and been able to learn from his fellow students in the LLM program who come from 80 different countries around the world. Thank you for sharing your story with us! You have accomplished truly amazing things in your life and career.

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
*************************
Happy Dollars: We collected $52 this week
50-50 Raffle: Neither Steve nor Mel picked the winning card... the pot is up to $70
*************************
REMINDERS:
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.

Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
*************************
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!!

(If anyone has any stories or jokes you would like to add to the weekly Ripple, please email Vanessa at vsilveira@metrocu.org)
One day Mikey was sitting in his apartment when his doorbell unexpectedly rang. He answered the door and found a salesman standing on his porch with a strange object.
"What is that?" Mikey asked. "It's a thermos," the salesman replied. "What does it do?" asked Mikey. "This baby," the salesman said, "keeps hot things hot and cold things cold."
After some deliberation Mikey bought one, deciding it would really help his lunch situation. The next day he arrived at the plant where he works. Sure enough, all the other employees were curious about his new object. "What is it?" they asked.
"It's a thermos," Mikey replied.
"What does it do?" they asked.
"Well," Mikey says in a bragging manner, "It keeps hot things hot and cold things cold."
"What do ya got in it?"
To which Mikey says, "Three cups of coffee and a popsicle."

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member. It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.
That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.
LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!
THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:
1. IS IT THE TRUTH?
2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?
3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?
4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?
Please keep this in mind!
