President Steve must have been out spending the $50 he won last week for picking the Joker. So Peggy Pedro filled in for him. Peggy mentioned that the scholarship committee, chaired by Cathy Gravel, received 50 applications. The Board approved the committee's recommendation of 11 to receive $1,000 each. Cathy will host a reception for the scholarship winners at Gra-Voc on Tuesday, June 16th, at 5:30PM. That presentation will be followed by a Board meeting. Let's have a great turnout to honor these special students! (Ed.'s note: A reminder to all that everyone is not only invited but encouraged to attend Board meetings. This is where your club's decisions are made.)

Peggy told the club that the golf tournament will be a joint venture with the Peabody Area Chamber of Commerce, Peabody City Council and Peabody Rotary. Last year the Chamber's tourney netted $5,000, while the Rotary/City Council tourney netted $10,000. There's only a 10% overlap of golfers. So, with the extra resources, we should net a similar amount as last year. It will be held on Monday, September 14th at The Meadow Golf Course. President Steve will talk with The Outback about hosting the dinner.

Cathy handed out registration forms for our club's annual dinner. This is our big FELLOWSHIP event of the year and is always a great time. It will be on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24TH, 6:00PM, AT THE WARDHURST GRILLE. Dinner choices are Prime Rib, Lamb Shish Kebab, Chicken Parmigiana and Baked Haddock. A great meal and fellowship for only $35!! Be sure to return these forms to Cathy soon. There will be no meeting the following morning so hangovers can be treated.

Peggy reminded Martha, Herb & Ellen that they're feeding Haven From Hunger on June 5th. This is the last time we'll be helping Haven From Hunger in this manner. In the near future, we'll be feeding Citizens For Adequate Housing. To learn more about this organization, be sure to attend our meeting on June 18th!
*
Cathy has the sign-up sheet for the District Installation Dinner, which will be on Tuesday, June 30th at the Danversport Yacht Club. This super annual event is only $60 per person.
*
Peggy told us that the "Rotary meets at ..." signs are in. Martha will check with someone from the city to install them. We can't so this on our own. And hopefully, teh sign to be put up at The Marriott--"Rotary Meets Here on ..." is also in.
*
Vanessa announced that on June 21st, she'll be walking in the North Shore Medical Center Cancer walk. She asks that we either walk with her group or donate for her. She'll have forms on June 18th. But contact her before then if you'd like to help.

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!! Mel thanks Dick Berg and Herb Harris for their generous contributions.
******************************
Happy Dollars: This month's Sergeant-at-arms, Cathy Gravel, collected $45.
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
******************************
50-50 Raffle: Neither Peggy Lyons nor Joanne Donovan picked the Ace of Diamonds, so neither won the $121.

A little boy was overheard talking to himself as he strutted through the backyard, wearing his baseball cap and toting a ball and bat. "I'm the greatest hitter in the world," he announced.
He stopped, tossed the ball into the air, swung at it and missed. "Strike one!" he yelled.
Undaunted, he picked up the ball and said again, "I'm the greatest hitter in the world!" He tossed the ball into the air. When it came down, he swung again and missed. "Strike two!" he cried.
The boy then paused a moment to examine his bat and ball carefully. He spit on his hands and rubbed them together. He straightened his cap and said once more, "I'm the greatest hitter in the world!"
Again, he tossed the ball up in the air, swung at it and missed.
"Strike three. Wow, I'm the greatest pitcher in the world!"
It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member. It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter. That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.
LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!
