Meeting notes
Today's visiting Rotarians: Sue Kelley, Temecula, CA
Guests: ADG Helene Andersen Michel
****************************************
Herb Harris distributed the schedule for Citizens For Adequate Housing service. He mentioned that it's not set in stone yet since we need to see how it goes. Perhaps we'll need more servers each week, perhaps less; the time may change; etc. Now that the schedule's set (somewhat), if anyone cannot fulfill his/her obligation it's up to that member to find a replacement and notify Herb. President Cathy will check with CAH to see if we all will be able to attend on the first day of service, August 7th, and other particulars.
*
President Cathy handed out flyers and brochures for the joint golf tournament. There'll be another meeting in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, members should solicit golfers, sponsors and advertisers.
President Cathy mentioned that we had received one more "Thank You" from a scholarship recipient. So far, all but three have thanked us.
A reminder that this Saturday is the celebration of 100 years of Rotary in Massachusetts and it's not too late to register!! It will be in Boxborough with RI President John Kenney as the main speaker. Your Peabody club will be celebrating 90 years in March!!
President Cathy thought that we might be able to apply for another District Simplified Grant for the S.T.O.P. program.
We'll be working with the Library Lunch program on Monday, July 27th (11:30 to 1:00). There'll be around 50 children and how many Rotarians? We'll be bringing crafts for 5 to 9 year-olds.
*
Martha Holden was to have a Literacy Committee meeting immediately following our meeting this week.
*
Mel Babner reminds us to bring your bottles and cans to the meetings so he can redeem them for cash for the club. The Entertainment Books will be available the second week of August--but it's a good idea to pre-sell.
**********************************************
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of
interest to the club.
**********************************************
Reminders:
Secretary Gary Epstein reminded members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
*
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!! Mel thanks Dick Berg for their generous contributions.
******************************
Happy Dollars: Sergeant-at-arms Steve Padulsky collected $74.
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
******************************
50-50 Raffle: Neither President Cathy nor Cathleen picked the Ace of Diamonds, so neither won the $194.
**********************************
Upcoming Programs:

July 30: General Business Meeting
August 6:

Please make every effort to attend your Rotary meetings. The more members we have each week, the better we look to potential members--and to our visitors and speakers.
Thank you!

Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind - John F. Kennedy
***********************************************************
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died. Steven Wright
*****************************************************
An old man was on his death bed, and wanted to be buried with his money. He called his priest, his doctor and his lawyer to his bedside. "Here's $30,000 cash to be held by each of you. I trust you to put this in my coffin when I die so I can take all my money with me."
At the funeral, each man put an envelope in the coffin. Riding away in a limousine, the priest suddenly broke into tears and confessed, "I only put $20,000 into the envelope because I needed $10,000 to repair the roof of the church."
"Well, since we're confiding in each other," said the doctor, "I only put $10,000 in the envelope because we needed a new X-ray machine for the pediatrics ward at the hospital which cost $20,000."
The lawyer was aghast. "I'm ashamed of both of you," he exclaimed. "I want it known that when I put my envelope in that coffin, I enclosed a check for the full $30,000."
*****************************************************
It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member. It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter. That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.
LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!
THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:
1. IS IT THE TRUTH? 2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED? 3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP? 4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?
Please keep this in mind!
