     ****************************************

Due to an injured knee, President Martha ran today's meeting sitting at her table, rather than standing at the podium.  She wished Happy Birthdays to Rachel Williams, Don Lyons and Ethel Babner, through their mates, Fred, Peggy and Mel.  She then distributed to all this year's Rotary pin with its theme, Building Communities, Bridging Continents.

Bob C said that he'll soon be attending a planning session for the Golf tournament, which is only two months away.  He suggests that we start now collecting auction and raffle items, as well as sponsorships and golfers.  Who do you know who can help? There is information about the September 20th tourney at the Peabody Chamber of Commerce's website.  Bob W suggested that Bob C send the flyer to Carole Elliott, the new Editor of the District e-newsletter.  Last year, we added at least one foursome due to this newsletter--thanks, Bob.

Cathy has been collecting information and items for the calendar.

Cathy and President Martha will be serving at Citizens For Adequate Housing tonight.

Cathy handed Mel the Paul Harris Fellowship pin to give to Ralph Raynard, who told Cathy that he's not a morning person so cannot make it to the meeting to accept it.

Bob W reminded us how our annual giving to the Foundation affects the District and, in turn, our club.  Half of the amount given to the Foundation is returned to the District three years later.  This year annual giving was down substantially.  We received $55,000 this year for District Grants and other District and club projects (from donations to the Foundation three years ago).  But in three years, that amount will be only $21,000.  Much of the decrease is due to giving to other worthwhile causes, such as the Haiti earthquake.  So the club should remember that we'll receive back much of what we give if it goes to Foundation.  And every penny donated to the Foundation goes to good causes--no administrative fees out of those funds.

President Martha  reminded us that the next Board Meeting will be at the Library on July 19th.

Mel reminds us that the 2011 Entertainment Books will be available in August.  He has a supply of 2010 books, which are good through October.  Those will be given FREE to those purchasing the 2011 books ($30.00 each) until supplies run out.

   ******************************

Happy Dollars:  New Sergeant-at-arms Bob Clattenburg collected $80.  He promises to do a lot better than that in the weeks to come.  So everyone had better arrive on time and be wearing their Rotary pins.  Bob reminded everyone to bring in their cans and bottles for Mel to redeem for the club.

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

    ******************************

50-50 Raffle: Neither President Martha nor Herb picked the Seven of Hearts so no-one won the $46.00. And neither picked the $50 Joker.

       *******************************

Reminders:

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of

  interest to the club.

        *************************

Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements.  Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up.  However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up.  Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings.  Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!

   *************************

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.  Every nickel helps!!  He thanks former member and President Dick Berg for his generous contributions.

     *************************

NEXT MEETINGS:

  July 15, 2010:

July 22, 2010: Bruce Wood, Internet Marketing

  July 29, 2010: Danyela Schanton,Bilingual Instructor

Please make every effort to attend your Rotary meetings. The more members we have each week, the better we look to potential members--and to our visitors and speakers.

Thank you!

On opening his new store, a man received a bouquet of flowers.  He became dismayed on reading the enclosed card, that it expressed "Deepest Sympathy".  While puzzling over the message, his telephone rang.  It was the florist, apologizing for having sent the wrong card.

"Oh, it's alright." said the storekeeper. "I'm a businessman and I understand how these things can happen." "But", added the florist, "I accidentally sent your card to a funeral party." "Well, what did it say?" ask the storekeeper.  "Congratulations on your new location."

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.  That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:

1. IS IT THE TRUTH?

2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?

3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?

4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?

Please keep this in mind!
