****************************************
President Martha wished no-one Happy Birthday.
She then went onto Committee Reports:
Membership: In Steve S's absence, Cathy said that Steve was producing an updated brochure which he was to get to Cathy. She also mentioned that in August, Rotary's Membership and Extension month, one of our meetings will be a brainstorming session.
Foundation: Peggy P was not in attendance, so no report.
Media: Herb thanked all who responded to help with the website. Bob W will be the Webmaster, a position he no longer holds for the District. He did a great job with the site and the District's e-newsletter! Brian, Loring and Steve M also joined the committee, along with "right arm" Vanessa. Hopefully in the near future, the website will be updated. Please notify any of the committee with your recommendations and suggestions for improvement.
Program: Grace said that she has some programs lined up. One meeting a month will be a classification speech, beginning in August with John M.
Golf: Bob C urged everyone to start soliciting golfers (we need 144!), sponsors, advertizers and raffle/auction donations. Here's the link to the Peabody Chamber of Commerce's website with the flyer: http://secure.chambermaster.com/FCKeditor/UserFiles/chambers/340/File/Golf%202010.pdf The flyer has also been attached to the e-mail for this edition of The Ripple.
International Festival: Peggy L has a call into the pie supplier. In the next couple of weeks, she'll have a volunteer sign-up sheet for the September 12th (Sunday) event.
Literacy: Cathy met with Sandra at Northeast ARC to learn of the needs which Peabody Rotary can help. She said that the joint (with PEC) raffle calendar is coming along. It's now a 16-month calendar. Lots of opportunities to advertise--and to win prizes!
President Martha reminded us that the next Board Meeting will be at the Library on WEDNESDAY, August 18th. ALL members are welcome. And she mentioned that we'll be at the Welch School next Monday, July 26th, to distribute bike helmets, books and other supplies. Hopefully there will be a representative from the police department to talk on bike safety. Rotarians interested in participating should contact President Martha for details. President Martha said that Gary will be holding fireside chats with our newest members. Although she has completed her fundraising goal and was not looking for more donations, it was reported that Cathy will be doing the three day Susan B. Komen Walk for Breast Cancer this weekend. Good Luck, Cathy, and THANK YOU! Grace is looking for donations for gift bags to give to impoverished women in India when she goes there next month. Soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.
Grace introduced our guest speaker, Bruce Wood. He gave a very informative presentation about seven FREE ways to market online.
Grace presented President Martha with a Rotary banner from Portugal.
Mel reminds us that the 2011 Entertainment Books will be available in August. He has a supply of 2010 books, which are good through October. Those will be given FREE to those purchasing the 2011 books ($30.00 each) until supplies run out.
******************************
Happy Dollars: Sergeant-at-arms Bob Clattenburg collected $57.
Where's the football game, Jesse Aikman and Bob the referree?
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
******************************
50-50 Raffle: Neither Steve P nor Loring picked the Seven of Hearts so no-one won the $78.00. And neither picked the $50 Joker.
*******************************
Reminders:
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of
interest to the club.
*************************
Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
*************************
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!! He thanks former member and President Dick Berg,Bob C and Herb for their generous contributions.
*************************
NEXT MEETINGS:
July 29, 2010: Danyela Schanton,Bilingual Instructor
Please make every effort to attend your Rotary meetings. The more members we have each week, the better we look to potential members--and to our visitors and speakers.
Thank you!
UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES:
August 18, 2010: Board Meeting at Peabody Institute Library
