****************************************
President Martha wished Happy Birthday to Al DiMambro and to John Meakin. Since there was no speaker, some of the Committee chairs gave reports: Membership--Steve S said that there will be a new flyer produced for each member to use for membership development. Cathy said that Betsy Lehman of Citizens For Adequate Housing was interested in joining, but was unable to attend today. There was no Foundation report, as Peggy P was not in attendance. PR--Herb said that we had a picture in last week's Weekly News, thanks to an anonymous picture donor. Program--in Grace's continued absence, President Martha said that we'll have a speaker next week--Bruce Wood, who will speak on Internet Marketing. Golf--Bob C said that he and President Martha went to the first golf committee meeting. The tournament will be on September 20th at the Meadow in Peabody. And this year, the luncheon will be on site. We're hoping for 144 golfers. So be sure to start NOW asking potential golfers/foursomes, sponsors, raffle donors, etc. The cost will remain at the reasonable $125 per golfer. International Festival--Peggy L was in attendance but had no report other than to say that we'll sell pies again. Literacy--Cathy has been working on the calendar--now a 16-month calendar, rather than a school year calendar. It should go to print in early August, so be sure to ask for sponsors. And she's awaiting Grant application forms.
Mel said that he delivered the Paul Harris Fellowship pin to Ralph Raynard--his 6th or 7th--and sold him two Entertainment Books.
Cathy and President Martha served at Citizens For Adequate Housing last week. Because Santoro's was closed for vacation, the beautiful meal was prepared by Gallo Nero. Unfortunately, the residents didn't know we were serving that night as there was no notice posted. As of August, there will be one additional responsibility for the Team Leader--call CAH to remind them that you'll be there. And don't forget to call Santoro's to remind them.
President Martha reminded us that the next Board Meeting will be at the Library on July 19th. ALL members are welcome.
Mel reminds us that the 2011 Entertainment Books will be available in August. He has a supply of 2010 books, which are good through October. Those will be given FREE to those purchasing the 2011 books ($30.00 each) until supplies run out.
******************************
Happy Dollars: Sergeant-at-arms Bob Clattenburg collected $76.
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
******************************
50-50 Raffle: Neither Steve S nor Herb picked the Seven of Hearts so no-one won the $62.00. And neither picked the $50 Joker.
*******************************
Reminders:
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of
interest to the club.
*************************
Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
*************************
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!! He thanks former member and President Dick Berg for his generous contributions.
*************************
NEXT MEETINGS:
July 22, 2010: Bruce Wood, Internet Marketing
July 29, 2010: Danyela Schanton,Bilingual Instructor
Please make every effort to attend your Rotary meetings. The more members we have each week, the better we look to potential members--and to our visitors and speakers.
Thank you!
UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES:
July 19, 2010: Board Meeting at Peabody Institute Library
Early one morning, my husband, who works in a funeral home, woke me, complaining about severe abdominal pains.
We rushed to the emergency room, where tests were performed to determine the source of the pain.
My husband decided not to have me call in sick for him until we knew what was wrong.
When the results came back, the nurse informed us that, true to our suspicions, he was suffering from a kidney stone.
I turned to my husband and asked, "Would you like me to call the funeral home now?"
With a scornful look, the nurse turned to me and snapped, "Honey, he's not that sick!"
It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member. It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter. That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.
