President Cathy welcomed our newest members, John Meakin and Megan Shea-Pereira.  She then mentioned that Grace will be going on another mission trip to Nicaragua.  She'll work with the local Rotary club in Grenada to feed the children, plant a garden and work on public health.  The club will vote about a donation. Martha said that the S.T.O.P program is going well at the Carroll School.   There's a bit of a scheduling issue with the guest reader program.  She'll coordinate with the teacher there.  President Cathy reminded everyone to let here know if they want to attend the World Peace And Understanding Dinner on February 9th.  Next week we will make the specific determination for the recipient organization and amount for Haiti Relief.  Members can let Treasurer Loring know how much to be billed for their personal contributions or they can write a check.   President Cathy said that Nichole, at CAH, knew nothing about the resident who wanted the furniture in Bob Wood's garage.  But apparently the resident has a truck and will be able to pick up Bob's parents' furniture.  Vanessa said that Taste ticket sales are coming in slowly, but Joanne has sold 8 raffle tickets with three more potential sales!   So far, Danversport Yacht Club, Bugaboo Creek, Edible Arrangements and Teresa's Italian have signed up.  PP Steve handed out the Taste flyers.  But all members should have a flyer in their Word Files so they can personalize them for replies to be sent to them.  President Cathy and Joanne are coordinating the auction items and Loring is in charge of the tickets.  President Cathy hasn't heard from Taking a Bow yet. President Cathy reminds everyone to bring in their loose change and bills every week.

Grace introduced Dave Cohen, who is a professional speaker.  He's involved with the Advanced Toastmasters program and made an excellent presentation, "A Moment of Greatness".  He focused on his time in the Army National Guard, where one of his moments of greatness came when he accomplished five pullups.  His next moment of greatness was at grenade drill, when he fell on a live grenade in an act that he thought would save the lives of his comrades but might kill him.  And his third moment of greatness was his victory in a table tennis tournament.  When there were no volunteers, he asked Steve Smith to tell of a moment of greatness that he had.  Steve talked about going on stage as a first grader.  Herb then volunteerd (he learned nothing from his four years in the Air Force) to relate his moment of greatness--the transformation with speaking in public in front of thousands when he was a bank officer in Watertown.

*******************************

Happy Dollars:  Sergeant-at-arms Steve Padulsky collected $102 (plus Jeff's IOU from last week is still outstanding).

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

    ******************************

50-50 Raffle: Neither Gary (in absentia) nor Bob Clattenburg picked the Seven of Clubs so no-one won the $54.50.

       *******************************

Reminders:

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of

  interest to the club.

        *************************

Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements.  Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up.  However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up.  Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings.  Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!

   *************************

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.  Every nickel helps!!  Mel thanks President Cathy for her generous contributions.

A woman, searching for a job, inquired about the benefits. The Personnel Manager informed her they had group health and life insurance, but the costs were deducted from the employee's pay.

She said, "My last employer had full health coverage, as well as five year's salary for life insurance and a month's sick leave AND they paid the full premiums."

"I can't help but ask why you would leave a job with such benefits," the interviewer replied.

The woman shrugged her shoulders and said, "The company went bankrupt."

                 *****************************************************

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.  That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:

1. IS IT THE TRUTH?

2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?

3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?

4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?

Please keep this in mind!
