MEETING NOTES
Guests:
Our guest from the Swampscott Rotary club shared his ideas on how his club received donations for the troops:
They got names from the Church Bulletin and went out and called on their families to see how they were doing and brought gifts. Some of the donated items were Dunkin Donuts Coffee, hand warmers from home depot, shaving cream, baby wipes etc. They took ads out on Cable TV, newspapers etc. They also went to the local schools and had a PJ day where the kids could wear their pajamas and pay $5.00. The money would they buy items.
Patrick Burke has been back from overseas for 1 week and was very grateful for all the Swampscott Rotary had to give to him and all the other men in his unit. He especially loved the letters from the school children.
President Cathy was very excited and now has a lot of ideas for the Peabody Rotary to contribute as a service club!
*************************
Thank you to everyone who helped table for donations for Haiti this past weekend. We’ve raised almost $200 for Partners In Health!
Thank you to Bob Wood for his generous donation of Susan’s art work for the District conference silent auction. It is very much appreciated.
Fred is working on the GSE team visit in May. We may be hosting the team on Friday May 14th in place of Thursday the 13th. As soon as we have more information we will pass it on.
Reminder – The World Peace Dinner is next Tuesday. If anyone wants to attend last minute, please let Cathy know.
March is Literacy month. In honor of that and to step up our participation with the STOP program, Martha would like everyone to commit to a half hour of time on Friday March 19, at 9:30am to read to the students at the Carroll school. Please put this on your calendars!
Taste update - Almost everyone has sold some tickets, some have even sold all 10 and requested more! Steve M will be happy to get extra tickets to whoever needs a refill!
Thank you to everyone who has already committed to an auction item and advertisement. Keep up the good work and be prepared to update the participation list during every Thursday meeting!
We were reminded during Peggy’s collection of Happy Dollars that February 23 is the 105 birthday of Rotary as well as 25 years of working to eradicate polio!
*************************
Happy Dollars: Peggy Pedro filled in as Sergeant-at-arms. Thank you for stepping in!
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
*************************
50-50 Raffle: Steve Smith’s number was picked twice! But, he didn’t win on either…
*************************
REMINDERS
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of
interest to the club.
*************************
Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
*************************
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!!
