END POLIO, EAT PIZZA
February 23, 2010 is Rotary International’s birthday, and Uno Chicago Grill/Pizzeria Uno is helping us celebrate across the nation by teaming up with our local Rotary clubs to hold a DoughRai$ser to end polio. They will donate 20% of the proceeds from the sales on 2/23/2010 to benefit PolioPlus – what a great way to raise funds! More importantly, it is an outstanding way to let the public know about Rotary and what we are doing.
Simply present the DoughRai$er coupon provided by your club, or the one found on www.rotary7930.org - www.rotary7930.org/UNOTICKET.cfm, when dining at your local restaurant or when picking up take-out orders, and Uno Chicago Grill will make a contribution to Rotary International. Make everyone aware of Rotary’s birthday by getting everyone you know to eat pizza at one of the restaurants listed on the coupon. Remember, we are Rotarians, and eating is one of the things that we do best, and when it helps the Polio Plus program, it can only be a winner!

MEETING NOTES
Today's visiting Rotarians: Kim from the Gloucester Rotary Club
Guests: (of Martha) Merrit Kirkpatrick from the George Peabody House Museum
*************************
I forgot to include Martha on the list of those who attended The World Peace Dinner in last week’s Ripple. Of course our President Elect was there!
Martha is working on trying to streamline the CORI application process and would like to see if she can centralize the information, and hopefully make the process easier and more convenient.
Fred gave us an update on the incoming GSE team. They will be with us all day Friday May 14th. So far we know that the group consists of 5 women, 2 of which are police officers!
The Peabody Chamber has asked us to partner with them again on the golf tournament in September! There seemed to be an overall interest in doing it again at last year’s event. It will be discussed at this Monday’s board meeting and more details will be presented back to the club. The consensus among participants was that it was too much in one weekend, so the tentative date is going to be a week after The International Festival on Monday September 20.
Taste Update
Here is the latest list of participating restaurants:
Bertucci's, Brutole Restaurant, Capt's Waterfront Grill, Century House, Danversport, Edible Arrangements, Not Your Average Joes, Perfecto's Cafe, Polcari's, QDoba, Santoros, Teresa's Italian Eatery, and Wrappinis
Thank you to Peggy Pedro for confirming participation from Century House in this year’s Taste!
Jesse is just about sure Carrabas will participate.
Grace is going to see if Sonya Oliveira from Oliveira’s is interested in coming.
The Taste is also listed on the District’s home page www.rotary7930.org!
On the sign up sheet I’ve been passing around, members have listed 95 tickets sold so far! That’s 1/3 of the way there!
Please continue to bring your updates and ticket money to every Thursday meeting!

Happy Dollars: Steve was back in action as the Sergeant-at-arms this week. He collected $56 this week.
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
*************************
50-50 Raffle: We started a new deck and picked the 5 of hearts as the card to look for. The new pool started this week at $15!
Peggy’s ticket got picked both times, but she did not chose the new card
*************************
REMINDERS:
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.
*************************
Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements. Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up. Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings. Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!
*************************
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel. Every nickel helps!!
