Today's meal: Very little garlic with: Pork Fried Rice and PuPu Platters; Although for some it was a liquid dinner.

The meeting begin rather informally with the showing of Peabody Matters the cable TV show hosted by Cathy Gravel's husband, City Councilor Dave. The show was entirely about Peabody Rotary and starred President Steve (when he could get a word in edgewise) and Past President Grace Martins and they did a fantastic job telling the Rotary story. The show will make its broadcast debut on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6TH, on Peabody Cable TV Channel 10, at 7:00PM.
After dinner, President Steve announced that the result of the voting was to change to a breakfast club. This will begin on THURSDAY, AUGUST 21ST. So this coming Tuesday, August 12th, will be our last lunch of garlic and... at Spinelli's. Mayor Bonfanti will be our guest speaker on August 21st after he cuts the ribbon opening this new era of Peabody Rotary.
President Steve has the contract ready to sign for the Taste Of The North Shore to be held on MARCH 24TH at the Danversport Yacht Club. Bob Sweeney has once again graciously and generously donated the raffle and entry tickets. They should be ready by September so we can sell them at the Golf Tournament.
There's a Golf Committee meeting every Monday at 9:00AM at Teddy Bettencourt's office at 30 Main Street. Start thinking about and asking potential sponsors as well as golfers.
Mike and Stephanie Tallo will host our resumed first annual Pool Party on Saturday, August 16th. No, it's not bathing suit optional, Mel. It will be held rain or shine.
Mel Babner has the Entertainment Books. Who'll sell the most? (Ed.'s note: FYI: I saved the cost of the book using the coupons at Dick's Sporting Goods when I bought Celtics Championship items.)
We'll be selling Penny Candy at the International Festival. Can one still buy candy for a penny? President Steve suggested that we sell bags for the kids (or adults) to fill with candy for a price yet-to-be-determined.
*
SAVE THE DATE: SEPTEMBER 17TH, from 3:00 TO 8:00PM. This is the date of the District's Membership and Foundation Forum at the Sheraton Ferncroft. This is where all Rotarians will learn more about how Rotary functions. And with this knowledge and tips from the Membership segment, we'll better be able to attract and retain more members. Please make every effort to attend.
Did you know that Larry Lucchino had been an Ambassadorial Scholar in 1973-4? NELink (September 26-27) is trying to get him to speak. The snag may be that the Red Sox are playing the Evil Empire (aka the Yankees) that weekend. For those who don't read the Rotarian (but you should!!), this month's issue tells us that the Ambassadorial Scholarship program is the LARGEST PUBLICLY FUNDED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IN THE WORLD!! By the way, the other locally well-known person who had been an Ambassadorial Scholar is former Lt. Governor Kerry Healy.
*
Would you like to help Mel Babner deliver food for the Citizens For Adequate Housing families, temporarily housed in Salem? Anyone who would like to help Mel, please contact him. At this point, we don't know if they still need our help. Grace will check on that.
*
What do you do with your empty bottles and cans? (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.) Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel Babner. Every nickel helps!! Mel Thanks Dick Berg for his generous contribution.
There must be a ton of empty beer cans and bottles from July 4th weekend and all summer--please give them to Mel.
*
Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, is asking that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.
*
Happy Dollars: Sergeant-at-arms Jeff Doherty collected $0 since he wasn't at the meeting.
Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club. We can use the money!! But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.
*
50-50 Raffle: The pool was $0 and no-one picked the Queen of Spades since we didn't have the raffle. Someone forgot to bring the raffle tickets and the badges to tonight's meeting.
*

THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:
1. IS IT THE TRUTH? 2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED? 3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP? 4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?
This is the first in a series of Nashville, TN's REAL 911 Calls!
Dispatcher : 9-1-1 What is your emergency?
Caller: I heard what sounded like gunshots coming from the brown house on the corner.
Dispatcher: Do you have an address?
Caller: No, I have on a blouse and slacks, why?
