Citizens For Adequate Housing:

Meeting notes

Today's visiting Rotarians:

Guests:

****************************************

President Cathy reminded the club that Mel now has the Entertainment Books.  Mel said that we have four months to sell 100 books.  He thanks past Rotarians Dick Berg, Mike Eidelman and Steve Blomerth for taking a supply to sell.  And he thanked the following current Peabody Rotarians for taking some books to sell:  Peggy Lyons, Joanne Donovan, Herb Harris and Vanessa Silviera.  ALL MEMBERS SHOULD TAKE A SUPPLY TO SELL IN THEIR BUSINESSES, BRANCHES OF THEIR BUSINESSES AND TO THEIR BUSINESS AND SOCIAL NETWORK ACQUAINTANCES.

*

President Cathy wished Steve Smith a Happy Birthday.

  *

Herb reported that Jeff, Martha and he served Citizens For Adequate Housing on Friday, the 7th.  Only two adults and three children were served while the three were there--from 4:15 until 5:15.  President Cathy was told that all other residents arrived later and all the food was consumed.  It appears that in the future, we'll only have to bring the food there and leave it for self-service.  Only two members will be needed each week and we'll arrive at 4:45PM to make the salad, rather than 4:15, and then depart.  As this is supposed to be a service project,  President Cathy will talk with CAH about any service we can perform, since we'll just leave the food and not dish it out to residents.  The new schedule and instructions will be out in a couple of weeks.  A good point made by Attorney Jeff was that at least two members should be present at all times while delivering the meal.

*

President Cathy mentioned that the golf tournament is making progress and we're in pretty good shape.  Be sure to let either Peggy Pedro or Joanne Donovan know of all contributions--raffle, golfers, adbook, sponsors, etc. The next Golf Committee meeting will be on Tuesday at 9:00AM at GraVoc.  President Cathy did say that volunteers (except for the Mulligan maven) are needed--registration desk, etc.  So everyone should be at the golf tournament on the 14th, even if you're not golfing.

Joanne said that because the Lions are no longer doing it, we'll be selling pies.  It was suggested that because Brooksby is selling apple pies, we should sell blueberry.  Perhaps we'll sell both.  Probable price will be $8 per pie.

*

President Cathy  received an e-mail saying that October 10th will be "A Day In The Life of Rotary" Day.  We should take photos of our activities on that day and forward them.  She has the details.  The club received a thank you note from the Brian Silva charity, to which we donated $250.  And the club received a request for the Citizens For Adequate Housing Raising the Roof fundraiser.  Last year we donated and received a couple of tickets to the event--but no-one from the club went.

*

Past President Elect Steve said that he has the meeting signs in his van and will get them to City Hall with the list of locations for their installation.

*

Grace's son has been deployed to Afghanistan.  Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers for a safe return.

District Governor Ingrid Brown will visit the club on October 29th.

*

Reminders:

**********************************************

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of

  interest to the club.

        **********************************************

Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements.  Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up.  However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up.  Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings.  Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!

  *

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.  Every nickel helps!!  Mel thanks Bob Clattenburg for his generous contributions.

 ******************************

Happy Dollars:  Sergeant-at-arms Steve Padulsky collected $47

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  We can use the money!!  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

    ******************************

50-50 Raffle: Neither Steve Smith nor Jeff picked the Ace of Diamonds, so neither won the $247.

In honor of the start of pre-season football:

A guy took his girlfriend to her first football game.  They had great seats right behind their team's bench.  After the game, he asked her how she liked the experience. "Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the cute uniforms and all the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents."

Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"

"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was: 'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback! ' I'm like... Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents !!!!

*****************************************************

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.  That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:

1. IS IT THE TRUTH?   2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?   3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?   4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?

Please keep this in mind!
