MEETING NOTES

Today's visiting Rotarians: None

Guests: None

*************************

Thank you to Martha who took the following meeting notes:

Jesse and Brian were officially welcomed into the Peabody Rotary club today!

Make sure to sign each of their Rotary books over the next couple weeks.  Sargent at Arms Steve will be looking out!

Steve P. and Cathy Gravel welcomed Jesse Philbrick & Brian Cassidy as new members. Steve stressed the fact that we are a small, but very active club and that the participation of every one of our members is meaningful and crucial.  As a small club, every one of our members' voices carries a good deal of weight.

Peggy Lyons provided an update from the Scholarship Committee.  She received approximately 20 applications.  Peg will copy sets and bring them to the Board meeting next week. Subsequent to that, she will convene a meeting of the Scholarship Committee (Peg Pedro, Martha Holden, Jeff Doherty, Steve Padulsky, Vanessa Silveira) so that they can evaluate the applications and make a recommendation to the Board.

President Cathy represented the Peabody Green Committee at an Earth Day event at the NS Shopping Center last week.  She spoke with a Simon representative about the possibility of the Peabody Rotary Club's sponsorship of a Summer Safety Day event that the NSM will host on a Saturday (tbd) in June.  Sponsorship would involve staffing a booth for 2-3 hours on the specified day and distributing safety information, coloring books and helmets (both of which we have in stock from our Bike Safety Day).  As the Club was in agreement with this, Cathy will get back to members regarding the need for volunteers.

Cathy reported as well that at the District Assembly a young Camp Rotary representative spoke about the value of Camp Rotary and the benefits of Club sponsorship of Camp Rotary scholarships.  Each club was encouraged to sponsor a camper for a session.  Cathy believes that the cost of the session is $625, but she will have complete information for the board at next week's meeting.

Martha provided an update on the STOP Program at the Carroll School.  She will meet next week with Principal Cara Murtagh to finalize plans for the remainder of the year.  We hope to sponsor a school-wide assembly late in May.  The students will incorporate the monthly themes that they covered this year into their annual Field Day.  Every station will represent a core value.  If there are opportunities for Rotary participation, Martha will let the club know next week.

Cathy Gravel, Peg Pedro and Martha Holden will represent the Club at the Future Vision workshop that will be held at the Peabody Institute Library in June.  Participation by at least 2 club members is mandatory if our club is planning to apply for District grant funds next year.

Reminder: If you see any news articles or pictures (not Rotary related) of our members, bring them in so the member can donate $$$ to the club.  But more important--we'd like to recognize and applaud our members.

*************************

50-50 Raffle: Steve P and Cathleen tried their luck at pulling the winning ticket, but no winner yet!

*************************

REMINDERS:

Our speaker scheduler, Grace Martins, asks that you tell her of any people who may want to speak to the club or whom you think may be of interest to the club.

*************************

Secretary Gary Epstein reminds members of Rotary's attendance requirements.  Members cannot miss more than three consecutive meetings without making up.  However, there are plenty of opportunities to make up.  Attend a Board meeting (All members are encouraged to attend, anyway.), attend a committee meeting, work on the website, and the most basic make-up--attend other clubs' meetings.  Be sure to steal ideas our club can use!!

*************************

What do you do with your empty bottles and cans?  (And we know there must be a lot of empty beer cans and bottles.)  Please bring them (both beer and soda) to the meetings every week to give to Mel.  Every nickel helps!!

NEXT MEETINGS:

April 29: Dr. Michael Stare - Spectrum Fitness Consulting, LLC

May 6: Debra Macgregor - District Attorney

UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES:

May 21-23, 2010:  District Conference

(If anyone has any stories or jokes you would like to add to the weekly Ripple, please email Vanessa at vsilveira@metrocu.org)

***********************************************************

It's easy to become a Rotary Sustaining member.  It's $100 per year, but Loring can bill you $25 per quarter.

That's $8.33 a month, or 28 CENTS a day, or a little over a penny an hour.

LET'S BECOME A 100% SUSTAINING MEMBER CLUB!!

THE 4-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do:

  1. IS IT THE TRUTH?

2. IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED?

3. WILL IT BUILD GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIP?

4. WILL IT BE BENEFICAL TO ALL CONCERNED?

Please keep this in mind!
