What's Happening with Peabody Rotary

Scholarships are a major part of the Peabody Rotary Club's support for community and education.

Each year the Peabody Rotary Club awards scholarships to high school seniors for use towards college. Eligible students must reside in Peabody.

Scholarships are award to the winners after the completion of their first semester of college and proof or enrollment for their second semester.

Application Process:

The application can be found here or the application will also be available through the high school guidance department.

We are looking for well rounded students who show a commitment to their community in addition to their schoolwork.

Completed applications must be mailed by April 15, 2016 to be considered.

Rotary is an international charitable organization comprised of professional and business leaders whose goals are humanitarian service, high ethical standards and the promotion of goodwill and peace around the world.
The Rotary Club of Peabody awards Scholarships to seniors in high school who are residents of Peabody and who exemplify the Rotary Motto of “Service above Self”.

The Sam Berns scholarship was created in 2014, in honor of a young man who exemplified courage and integrity in the face of the challenges of Progeria, and whose "can do" attitude and positive outlook on life have inspired millions to live life to its fullest. Sam, who passed away in January 2014 at the age of 17, was the inspiration behind the creation of the Peabody-based Progeria Research Foundation, whose mission is to find a cure for Progeria. Progeria is a rare, rapid aging disease that afflicts children, who die of heart disease at an average age of 14 years.

The Peabody Rotary Club is looking for applicants for this Sam Berns Scholarship.  Applications must be a Peabody Resident, and graduating senior of an accredited public, private, parochial, vocational or charter high school. They must be accepted to an accredited institution of higher education or vocational training program. They must be able to demonstrate that they reach out to others through community service either locally, regionally or internationally, and exemplify the qualities that Sam practiced daily.

It's time for the 2016 Taste of the North Shore!

Peabody Rotary will host its 12th Annual Taste of the North Shore on Tuesday, March 22th at the Danversport Yacht Club.  There will be twenty local restaurants serving a taste of their food, from main courses to sides to desserts.

In addition to the delicious food and great entertainment, the highlight of the evening will be the drawing of a $10,000 grand prize!  Raffle tickets are $100 each and include two admissions to the Taste.  Odds are in your favor as only 300 grand raffle tickets will be sold.  The winner of the $10,000 prize does not need to be present to win.

There will also be raffles and a silent auction with many coveted items—vacations, sports memorabilia, gift certificates, and more.  Also available will be the ever popular raffles to “stock your cellar” tables of wine and beer featuring dozens of bottles and accessories!

As the primary fundraiser of the year, the Taste of the North shore raises thousands of dollars to fund the projects Peabody Rotary supports in the community.  Recent initiatives include efforts to revitalize a Peabody playground and make it ADA accessible for kids, a swim safety course, a CPR training program for teachers and faculty, and countless donations to local charities.

If you are interested in attending or your business would like to donate items or gift certificates for the auction, please contact the event chairs – Vanessa Silveira at vsilveira@metrocu.org or Alyse Barbash at abarash@gmail.com.  Raffle tickets may be purchased from any member of Peabody Rotary.  Visit www.rotarypeabody.org for more information. Thank you for your support!
